Whisking Up Magic ‘In the Meadow’: Where Tradition and Modernity Collide with Mason Cash

Well friends, is there anything better to do on a rainy day than a little bit of baking? The wintery weather has been closing in here, and making me think of home. When I get like that, the best thing for it is to whip out my Mason Cash bowls and bake up a storm! And yes, I could use an electric mixer, but there is very little I find more satisfying than getting stuck right in with my trusty wooden spoon – I think I might be a bit of a traditionalist at heart. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t make a bit of a mess as I go, but hey, that’s all part of the fun! And if you aren’t into ceramic mixing bowls yet, let me take you through why I believe these spectacular ceramic creations are must-haves for any home baker or cook…

But first, a little Mason Cash history…

Mason Cash ceramics can be dated all the way back to the heart of Derbyshire in Church Gresley, in the early 1800s. It was established by a collection of potters, the most prominent along the way happened to be William ‘Bossy’ Mason (in the 1800s, and Tom Cash, who acquired the pottery in 1901, and renamed the business Mason & Cash Co. The name became synonymous with their iconic mixing bowls, which are such high-quality, you still might be using your granny’s today! I even happened to be watching a film last night set in the 60’s, and blow me down, there, clear as day was one of the iconic bowls we’ve come to know and love! How fabulous!

What’s new for Mason Cash?

How can it be that the satisfyingly tactile patterning on the outside of Mason and Cash bowls is simultaneously classic and innovative? I’ve been loving the new patterns that have come through for the ‘In The Meadow’ collection. The bowls still feature the easy to grip patterned upper rim, that makes mixing a whole lot easier. But to really add the cherry on top (so to speak), these gorgeous bowls, in hues of purple, cream and daffodil yellow, are embossed with florals that inspire memories of cheerful days spent in amongst wildflowers and the garden beds of my childhood. I really love how something as simple as a mixing bowl can be so hugely evocative!

What can you use your Mason Cash bowls for?

These bowls are sturdy, perfectly sized and suitable for so many applications. From baking to marinading, you’ll be able to create your favourite dish, no matter what that looks like for you! Personally, I use mine for making cookies, whipping up Stephen’s favourite banana cheesecake, and as a serving dish for my signature salad that comes out when we’re entertaining. Made from the finest ceramics, these wonder-bowls are dishwasher, microwave, freezer and oven safe. So not only a dream to use, but super easy to clean later on as well!

So there you have it – my secret love affair with Mason Cash bowls. I’d love to see how you use yours! Send me some snaps of you using yours over at: jane@rubyshomestore.com.au. Who knows, you might even get a feature over on my socials!
